[ ...It's been a horrible day, to top off a horrible week. Despite just wanting to be alone -- which is contrary to normal, to her drive to push it all away and distract herself, but this is unprecedented -- she can't...just stare at the four walls of her dorm room anymore.
Where's she to go? Rebecca doesn't know. Just...walk around the campus, outside? Even with this she feels shut in. With the stupid wall.
That's where her wandering takes her, actually? Standing at the wall. ]
...Nothing to be done about it. Nothing...to be done about anything, I suppose.
A lot had gone on today, and he wasn't going to go to his usual bed time, as his mind remained active in his decision as to what to do regarding that. He decided to spend most of his time over at the small after-party session, until he decided that it was time to track down Rebecca.
He didn't want her to be alone, so he wandered the halls, searching for her up until he found her. ]
...Rebecca?
[ There she is, he thought, and came closer, but did stop a respectful distance, making sure he wouldn't surprise her or anything like that. ]
[ While Rebecca stares at the wall, as if trying to see through it, Terra'll probably note she looks pretty miserable. Like, worse than earlier in the day, if that's possible. Just overall like she's lost all hope.
But she turns a little, and something a little tired shifts in her face. ]
[ Terra does notice that she looks miserable, but for once he was actually expecting someone to look like shit, not that he'd ever use that word even while thinking because Disney, but. You know. ]
I guess everything that happened made it hard not to be.
[ ... ]
...But I did want to make sure you weren't facing all of this alone.
...Well, being around here wouldn't count much for fresh air.
[ But the garden's no longer an option, it looks like--that just makes him furrow his brows in thought. Wait, he had an idea... ]
How about we take a walk and hang out in the field for awhile?
[ It's a place where they could get some real fresh air, and maybe he can come up with something to get her mind off of things. Even if he can't, again, there's the idea that they're not surrounded by these walls, which do right now feel ever more like a prison. ]
[ That's a good sign; he'll decide to lead her towards the field, then. It's not as great as the garden, but it's still so much nicer nonetheless in comparison to the dreary walls. It's true in that there's hardly a thing that could count as nice anymore, he figures, but they have to take what they can get.
Once they reach the field, he'll check on her by looking back over at her. ]
...I don't think you ever told me why you wanted to become a teacher.
[ If he's ever remembering correctly about that, anyway. He couldn't think of anything else to start with, and letting it lapse into morose silence seemed like no bueno either. ]
[ The walk doesn't take that long, but Rebecca's already appearing distant, like she's a lifetime away. Something...something races through her eyes. Something heavier than she can carry. ]
Huh? [ She takes a look around for a moment, and something almost akin to a smile rises to her lips, though it's tight and humorless, and sour. ] Oh, I... Well, it...seemed natural. It was in my disposition, and...with my parents, I grew up...admiring the sort.
[ That, on the other hand, is not a good sign. But, Terra's never claimed to be good at cheering people up, he just tries really, really hard...and sometimes it's not for lack of trying, but the situation just makes it impossible.
Still, some fresh air and a talk could help at least a little, and that's what matters. ]
Do you have a favorite moment... or I guess there was a time that made you really happy? About choosing to be a teacher, anyway.
[ P...ause. He's never heard of the word before or if he has while he's been here he sure doesn't remember what it means, but he's trying to figure it out. It probably has something to do with a school, so...her school? Goodness, he feels silly just asking. ]
That sounds pretty important. I mean, I'm not saying it's not, I've just never heard of the term before. That's all.
[ ...Terra's racking his head for ideas, anything he could do to help her some more, despite the fact he knows what he can do is already limited. It's his stubborn streak coming again, but it doesn't seem to do much good.
So, there's a moment where he falls uncomfortably silent, finally looking from her to back up at the sky. Then he closes his eyes for a moment, then when he opens them again, he turns to face her once more. ]
[ Terra doesn't seem to find any of that weird at all, as he's learned it helps comfort some of his friends previously, doing this sort of thing -- and that's who he reserves this type of gesture for. Whether he initiated it or not (the first time not so much on his part.) Though, her response does cause him to hesitate -- he doesn't mean anything intimate by it.
Still, if and only if she doesn't seem too uncomfortable by it, then he'll reach out to take her hand within both of his. ]
--I wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I know the both of you were close, but I've found that a reminder helps. At least it did for me when it got tough during the Entrance Exam and I -- [ ... ] Maybe I'm wrong here, but...
[ He just shakes his head and allows his hands to fall back to his sides. He wanted to say as much...he considers her to be a companion now -- a friend. He doesn't know if she feels the same, but that's how he feels. ]
[ She doesn't pull away, mostly appearing puzzled. A slow realization dawns on her, as Terra trails off: just how hard he's trying. She's been so in her own head, so...caught, by the day's events--what's been lost, what's been learned--that she can barely recognize it, right in front of her face.
What today's shown her...maybe a little too late, in some cases, is there are those here who care about her. And, though it stings...
She can't muster up a smile. But something grateful rises to her eyes. ]
Thank you, Terra. You're trying so hard, here, and I... I appreciate it. I- I appreciate...hearing that. [ ... ] Today's just been- been an...ordeal.
[ If anything, if it's helped by some small way, he's glad to manage that at least. ]
I didn't imagine it'd make everything feel suddenly all better, because it's impossible. All I know is that it can make a difference, knowing that someone's right there with you, when things get tough -- and especially when you've lost someone you cared about.
[ Terra should know. If things hadn't gone the way they did, Viral would not only be alive...but so would Henry. ]
[ Something fights inside her. To explain. To help him understand, just what's hanging over her.
But, at the moment, Rebecca's far too tired, to have that conversation. It's been not even a day, and...she's had it too many times, already. ]
...I know. I- ...I told Ashton the same thing, after... Well, after Isabella. [ Screamed it at him, just about. ] ...Should practice what I preach, perhaps.
...Sometimes practicing what you're preaching can be hard after you've just lost someone.
[ Or honestly, in general, but Terra's not going to really blame her for it. He seems to have no idea how much deeper this might go, but hey. There are other times for an explanation to happen, right? Provided that nothing happens before then, that is. ]
[ Terra doesn't seem like he'll be moving from his spot, though, and so he'll look back up at the starry sky. He'll likely be going to bed at some point, however-- ]
Saturday, after midnight

It'd be a lot nicer than this, that's...for sure. Well. Whatever counts for nice, around this place, anymore.
[ But lead the way. ...She's oddly not taking command. ]

Honestly...just learning I was going to be a full-time teacher at my alma mater, instead of just a lecturer... It was the best feeling in the world.
